Tournament Recaps 1/16-17/21

Week three is in the books! Our two 12's teams competed over the weekend. Here is how they did!

12 RED

Another tournament, another finals appearance. We started off the morning quite slow against a very talented opponent, but understood that if we got our act together we would see them again in the finals. We certainly did get it together! We played very aggressively the rest of the day with all of our hitters becoming involved as our passers put our setters in good position to deliver their assists. Once again, our serving played a crucial role in us putting consistent pressure on our opponents. When a 12's team can bring a variety of servers to the end line, opponents can never really get too comfortable.

In the finals, we came out incredibly hot, but ended up falling in a very close first set 23-25 to the very same team that we lost to in the morning. In the second set, we also came out aggressively, which was wonderful to see considering a tough first set loss. However, we ran into a series of incredible servers from our opponent that would prevent us from siding out as necessary. When it was all done, we finished 2nd overall, and received genuine compliments from the opposing coaches and the parents of the opposing players regarding that match. The girls have done an incredible job representing I AM, their parents, and themselves in our first 2 events.

Big #Shoutout to Isabel H. for her 4 block kills in the finals that were momentum changers and energy boosts for our girls. Isabel was also a more consistent server and her net awareness as a hitter continues to improve.

In addition, Halley M. became a more confident and aggressive attacker. We use our middles quite a bit and the two of them can definitely impact a game!

12 BLACK

We went 3-6 in pool play and then won the round 2 consolation bracket. Our scores during consolation were 32-30 and 25-19. Exciting games!! We had 2 players who served 7 plus points in a row! Congrats Paige and Carly. Paige was nominated our teams first Top Banana award!! There were team and individual wins all day by everyone. Overall, a great first tournament!

SAND SCRIMMAGE

We gathered the rest of our teams over to Kyote's Bar and Grill for a fun day of sand volleyball! Teams took on the challenge of playing in sand and they had a blast doing it! Even the parents go it on the action.
