Tournament Recaps - Week 14

Seasons are starting to wrap up with a trip down to Indiana! Some epic championships and some grate matches to end the season.

12 BLACK

Our last weekend of the season ended in Indiana with a finish in the gold bracket! These individuals earned the following pins:

  • Lauren got an #overpasskill and #topserver

  • Greta earned a #topserver

  • #MVP goes to Aalysah for playing middle at the last minute and always having such a positive attitude on the court

We also ended the season with team nominated superlatives, which were handed at our team dinner. Our favorite part as coaches is seeing the girls improve on their skills throughout the season, and it’s so cool to see their teammates recognize their efforts on (and off) the court!

  • Best teammate: Ellis

  • Best blocker: Olivia

  • Best hitter: Aalysah

  • Best team leader: Hazel

  • Clutch performer: Grace

  • Most consistent player: Ava

  • Team spirit/best attitude: Taylor

  • Best defense: Greta

  • Best server: Lauren

  • Best hustler: Arabella

Thanks for a great season 12 Black!

13 BLACK

Last tournament weekend for IAM 13 black! Starting the weekend strong, we went into our first match with a 25-6 and 25-15 win. In this game, what led us to victory was our 13 aces and 15 kills! Rolling into our next match of the day we won with having a team total of 18 aces, 9 kills, and 12 digs! In this match Taylor Kellerman and Sydney Massart received a 5 aces pin! Third match of the day we went to three sets and won the overall match! We had 11 aces, 16 kills, and 16 digs on our side! In this match Jane Mcintyre got X3 overpass kills! In this match something that we needed to do is make the ball going over the net more challenging! We would be getting great touches on the balls but often we fell into sending the ball over where the other side was able to maintain control which put us out of the loop! Something the girls learned from this match was remember not only where the spots are open, but defense started to speak up and share with our hitters of places on the court that were open! As soon as they started understanding this, they were able to work together and controlling her side and execute. Sunday we were back in the gym and ready to continue what we started! In the first match of the day Sunday, we won both sets 25-18 and 25-15 in this match as a team we had 17 aces, 13 kills, and 27 digs from the backrow!!!! In this match Emma Timm received a 5 aces pin! Second game we played against our IAM 13 white team! We had a great and competitive match with them, and the scores were 25-17 and 25-22! In this match as a team, we had 8 aces, 19 kills, and 33 digs in the back row!!!! CHAMPIONSHIP TIME! We played Eastside and went to three sets with this team. In the first set we lost 25-27 the second set we won 25-22 and the third set with insane rallies and plays we won 16-14 and we took home the gold! In this match we had a pin go to Taylor Kellerman for her pancake, and Alannah Donath and Emma Timm received a 5 aces pin. With lots of emotion at the end of the tournament we were able to share an unforgettable moment with each other. For this was my (Head Coach: Brianna Lundt) last tournament with the team I have developed and coached for 3 years. Over the years and even just this year we have learned so much and have battled through many tough moments and where able to beat and compete with many amazing teams this season. Our tournament MVP goes to Alannah Donath not only for her performance this weekend but her overall growth she has developed over the season. Alannah this weekend had a total of 10 aces, 17 kills, and 27 digs! So proud of all the girls and they will be something I’ll always remember!

14 WHITE

14 White traveled down to Indiana with big goals and a short bench. The plan was to serve tough and control the ball and we executed that plan extremely well! Saturday saw 14 White sweep all three opponents and held them under 15 points in 5 out of 6 sets with the last set of the day NCISVBC 14-2 reached 17 points before going down in defeat. Down an additional player on Sunday the team continued its impressive serving performance and really good ball control. The first two opponents were taken care of quickly with scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13, 25-10 respectively. The championship match started out the same with 14 White cruising to a 25-17 victory. The second set was tight until around midway through when the lack of subs caught up with us and Boilers Jrs eeked out a 21-25 win. 14 White started down 4-0 in the 3rd and battled their way back to make it close in the middle but a few unlucky bounces and tough calls proved too much for the super seven and they fell 10-15 and finished in 2nd place. The team posted some really impressive stats like 102 aces with Jovie McDonough leading the way with 33 and Edie Varney adding 21. Huge shout outs to Stella Seidemann for playing out of position all weekend, Brianna Miller for playing all the way around and driving all that way for one day, and the trio of setters Kierstyn West, Hayden Rech, and Alaina Friend for all taking some swings on the outside.

15 WHITE

15 White closed out their season this past weekend at the Midwest Showdown going 4-2. We started out the weekend in the afternoon on Saturday going up against some very good teams from all over the midwest, and even including a team from canada! The girls won their first 2 matches very quickly, and fought hard in the last game of the day. Nyah earned herself an overpass pin in the first match. The girls played amazing and truly looked like a strong team who was very consistent all weekend. We still ended up in the gold bracket on Sunday morning after a good first match to win the challenge game! We then went on to play a very strong team from Michigan, and the girls seemed to just lose steam during a hard fought 3 set match! Lexi earned herself a serving pin which was exciting because we hadn’t been able to give one out the last few tournaments. We then had one final game for the day which we came out strong and won in 2! What a way to end the season! Our MVP of the weekend went to Emi who showed so much consistency and reliability when it came to this weekend. We were able to trust her with the ball and count on her to do something amazing with it which she did just that! Coach Zoe and Sydney are so proud of these girls and the way they grew both as a team and individually throughout the season! Sad the season is now done, but couldn’t be more grateful than how the season ended and these beautiful ladies!
