More teams finish up this weekend out in Minnesota and in Milwaukee. See how our teams did!
13 RED | 3rd Place
13 red started out hot on Saturday afternoon! Literally… not only was the gym hot and humid, but we finished 2-0 beating Infinity and MVP and headed into our 2nd pool of the day. Next we took on MOD from Illinois in what was our toughest match of the day! This was a fun match! We had our ups and downs and took the lead late in the first set and went onto a thrilling 27-25 win!! MOD fought back winning set two 25-20. Unfortunately, we couldn’t hang on and ended up losing 16-14.
We bounced back in our next match and beat another MVP team 2-0. The girls were hot and tired after 4 matches and ready to get some sleep to be ready to come back for the gold bracket on Sunday!
We started out Sunday with a 25-9 and 25-15 win against that same Infinity team. The semifinals took us up against a very talented and athletic Iowa Select team. This was a very competitive match with us pushing it to a 3rd set! Seeing and competing with a team like this helped us grow so much, even though we weren’t able to pick up the win. I hope we see that team again this year! Next we played MVP yet again and won 2-0 to take 3rd place overall!
Offensively we made huge strides over the weekend. We are figuring out how to take better more aggressive swings and are seeing positive outcomes because of it.
15 RED | 4th Place
We headed into the Cornbelt Challaneg with a missing setter and and setter that fought through some illness. This lead us to get creative last second and crowned one of our Middles the setter for the tournament. Alessandra Austin absolutely crushed it as a setter and really embraced the chaos.
As a team we played well but battled mid-set blues all day and we didn't quite know the answer. We dropped our first match in 3 but was able to bounce back in match 2 with a victory forcing a 3-way tie. We took 1st after the dust settled and got a crossover match with a #1 team from the next pool. We were able grind through that match with a win but nothing came easy.
That put us in teh semifinals for day two but the inconsistanties stayed with us and we were not able to string points together while serving to get us to the finish line first. We lost that match but that put us in a grudge match with Iowa Select that we have seen in the last two tournaments. We were not prepaped to bring the hype as we lost the first set as fast as we could. Game two was more entertaining but stil took the L. We will bounce back in practice as we head to the Grand Slam in Milwaukee! #CantWinThemAll
